About the
Packaging Council
The Packaging Council of Singapore (PCS) was formed in 1975
as a sub-committee of the Singapore Manufacturers Association (SMA)
and attained the status of National Industry Club in 1986. In 1996,
the SMA restructured itself to the Singapore Confederation of Industries
(SCI) in order to meet the needs of local manufacturers who are
facing new challenges in a changing economic landscape. Together
with the SCI, both aims to develop, promote and protect the interest
of members in Singapore.
But with the establishment of the Singapore Business Federation
in 2002, it was no longer appropriate for SCI to be named as a "Confederation
of Industries". After much debate, a special task force proposed
that our organisation be re-named as "Singapore Manufacturers' Federation"
or "SMa" for short. The decision to retain "SMa" was to capitalise
on the organisation's 71 years of successful branding and goodwill.
We do not want to forget our roots and the solid foundation which
we have built up over the years.
The Objectives of the Packaging Council of Singapore
